Mobile Labs Sweden AB Introduces v-rocs for Indic Scripts

(PRWeb) February 14, 2007 -- Mobile Labs today introduces an advanced text layout solution optimized for embedding into mobile phones, currently supporting a range of Indic scripts.

v-rocs is a unique new language rendering solution for optimized use in mobile and embedded devices. The primary focus is mobile phones, but v-rocs can also be used in e.g. portable media players, portable game consoles, industry automation etc.

It consists of a generic core and optimized language modules with in-house designed bitmap fonts in different sizes, this minimizes the code size and facilitates the addition of more languages as plug-in modules, without affecting the base integration of v-rocs and also minimizing the need for retesting already deployed languages.

This release covers a ready-to-go combination of the v-rocs core and a range of language modules for Indic scripts. Currently available such modules are for Hindi/Devanagari, Bengali and Telugu, but also other popular Indic scripts are in the works. These modules have been designed and verified by language experts from India. The language modules consist of language logic, text placement, font management and associated bitmap fonts. It is also possible to interface them with an external font manager.

v-rocs is optimal for complementing existing text layout solutions with support for Indic scripts, by being easy to plug in to existing functionality. v-rocs core is designed to be able to handle any simple or complex script in the future.

More language modules (including non-Indic) and more fonts can be developed on request.
